Hip hop, jazz, marching band, funk, blues –just some of the influences that come through on Groundhog’s Day, the new CD released by Peck the Town Crier.  This album is overflowing with attitude arising from the mind of Chris Peck, whose lyrics are full of truth and humor. Eleven tracks that will open your mind and get your body moving are all connected through Peck’s engaging storytelling and rhythms.  Peck celebrates the voice as instrument and explores new avenues of rhythmic counterpoint.

Every track shines forth with originality, but here are a few highlights:  Breath Control is an amalgamation of rhythmic breathing, flutes and vocals. Peck’s jazzy lyrical flow falls into place with the brassy bebop licks of Jump for Joy, inspired by Dizzy Gillespie.  The funky track Underwear will have you smiling, singing and dancing.  The rhythm section rocks on Speakers, a track guaranteed to get your head nodding as you move to hot organ and guitar licks.  The final track, Shoutro, born out of the jamming ideas not used in the opening track, Shout!, is a personal favorite.  Buy the album for the complete experience.

Most of Groundhog’s Day was recorded by Scott McDowell at San Francisco’s Hyde St. Studio C.  The drums and percussion on Coffee were recorded at 401 Studios by Andy Scott and backing vocals were recorded by Noah Waldman at Underground Recordings.  Greg Scott recorded and mixed the guitars, bass, synthesizers and singing vocals.  The album contains great artwork with photos by Erin Melina Stamos and Austin Peck with design and layout by Sony Atmadjaja.
